Washington, DC – Today, the Alliance for Aviation Across America commended Leonardtown Mayor Daniel Burris and commissioners for proclaiming May “General Aviation Appreciation Month.” In Maryland, general aviation airports support an economic impact of $867 million annually.
“The mayor’s proclamation helps to highlight the vital contributions of general aviation, including local job and business growth and support for valuable services, to the community of Leonardtown,” said Devin Osting, interim executive director of the Alliance for Aviation Across America. “We thank the mayor, the commissioners, and the town for recognizing this crucial industry.”
The proclamation not only cites the economic impact of general aviation and local airports like the St. Mary’s County Regional Airport but also the importance of investing in this infrastructure to encourage enthusiasm in flying and grow the next generation of pilots and aviation professionals, as well as to encourage future growth through investments in sustainability.
