Washington, DC – Today, the Alliance for Aviation Across America welcomed passage by the U.S. Senate Committee on Commerce, Science, and Transportation of the Advanced Aviation Infrastructure Modernization Act (AAIM) (S.4246), which will support new infrastructure investments in emerging technologies, including advanced air mobility (AAM), and new takeoff and landing facilities known as “vertiports,” and associated infrastructure.
“We applaud the passage of this legislation, which would establish a grant program for state and local agencies to plan the development of infrastructure for emerging technologies, including AAM operations. These technologies have the capacity to improve mobility for our communities, support our health care networks, reduce noise and environmental impact, as well as help transport people between urban and rural areas more quickly and efficiently,” said Selena Shilad, Executive Director of the Alliance for Aviation Across America.
The Advanced Aviation Infrastructure Modernization Act was introduced by Sen. Padilla (D-CA) and Sen. Moran (R-KS). A companion bill in the U.S. House of Representatives (H.R.6270) passed the U.S. House Transportation and Infrastructure Committee on April 28th.
“We thank Senators Padilla and Moran for their leadership on this issue as nearly every industry, business and community in our country depends on aviation for transportation, supply chain management, and many critical services,” continued Shilad.
By 2035, the AAM market in the United States is expected to reach $115 billion per year and employ nearly 300,000 high-paying jobs. In addition, general aviation supports over 1.1 million jobs and over $247 billion in economic impact, as well as medical care, disaster relief, and many critical services for communities.
The Alliance for Aviation Across America, and many other national and local groups, partnered to launch futureofaviation.org, which highlights the importance of investments in AAM. In addition, more information about the economic impact of general aviation can be found here.
The Alliance for Aviation Across America (AAAA) is a nonpartisan, nonprofit, national grassroots coalition of over 7,000 aviation and non-aviation groups and individuals across the country, including businesses, FBOs, small airports, elected officials, agricultural and charitable organizations, and leading industry and aviation groups. Formed in 2007, the organization is dedicated to spreading awareness and educating the public about the value of general aviation and local airports.
