Alliance Statement on the FAA Reauthorization Bill and Essential Air Service (EAS) Program
Washington, DC: Today, the Alliance for Aviation Across America released the following statement in response to this week’s introduction of FAA reauthorization legislation, and reported efforts to eliminate the EAS program:
“We applaud Senator Rockefeller’s (D-WV) introduction of FAA reauthorization legislation in the U.S. Senate, and commend Senators Reid (D-NV), Schumer (D-NY), and Cantwell (D-WA), as well as Chairman Mica in the House of Representatives, for their recent statements in favor of FAA reauthorization.
“While Congress considers FAA reauthorization, we hope that they will recognize the critical importance of the Essential Air Service (EAS) program for hundreds of communities across the country. The airports that benefit from this program are a literal lifeline for many of these communities and support general aviation, which drives 1.2 million jobs and $150 billion in economic impact nationwide. We look forward to working with Members of both the House and the Senate on these and other issues important to small towns and rural communities areas around the nation.”
Formed in 2007, the Alliance for Aviation Across America is a non-profit, non-partisan coalition of over 5,500 individuals representing businesses, agricultural groups, FBO’s, small airports, elected officials, charitable organizations, and leading business and aviation groups that support the interest of the general aviation community across various public policy issues.
