Augusta Regional Airport hosted their 7th Meet a Machine event. Meet a machine lets families explore planes, trucks and several other vehicles.
Several first responders were also there showing off equipment.
“We’re on the heels of 9/11,” airport executive director Herbert Judon said. “We just want to kind of celebrate those people and then, locally, but kind of what they do to keep us safe.”
But the focus of the event was on the community. It is one of several events that the airport holds.
The community connection includes partnering with the Children’s Hospital of Georgia. Proceeds from the event were donated to the hospital.
The hospital tackles a range of different things. It includes patients that deal with critical illnesses. The event had a plane with a message to raise awareness for childhood cancer.
Associate Director of Philanthropy for the Wellstar Galisano Children’s Hospital of Georgia spoke on what the partnership means.
“We do have many patients that do have childhood cancer. And so for us, it’s just so meaningful to be here and you know represented behind us is just part of the patient population we’re serving at the hospital.
This year’s event donated $9,980 to the hospital.
