AUGUSTA, Ga. (WRDW/WAGT) – Augusta Regional Airport hosted kids from 51 area middle and high schools for a hands-on learning experience Saturday morning.
The students received learning opportunities in science, technology, engineering, arts and mathematics, also known as STEAM.
We spoke with one of the organizers about why this event is so important.
“It touches everything and exposes us to the world. And I want the kids here who may not have the opportunity or may not think that it’s possible to know that they can see the world from a different lens, and you don’t have to be a certain color. You don’t have to be a certain age,” said Kashana Owens, Sigma Gamma Rho Sorority, Inc.
The kids also got to go in a small plane and fly around Augusta.
