  • Multiple fire engines and aircraft have been assigned to a fire burning in steep terrain northeast of Darrington.

Darrington Fire District (DFD) #24 and Oso Fire Department were dispatched to Dearinger Park Rd around 1:47 p.m. Saturday after receiving reports of a small fire above the road. Crews found a 20×30 fire in rugged terrain about 600 feet above the closest road, according to the DFD. A progressive hose lay was quickly deployed for fire control.

The DFD said the combination of wind and terrain helped the fire grow quickly. A helicopter was ordered out of Olympia soon after.

The scene was eventually turned over to the Washington State Department of Natural Resources (DNR). They have three brush engines and two supervisors on the scene. They are being assisted by one engine from Mt. Baker-Snoqualmie National Forest – US Forest Service.

The DFD said this event is expected to last for at least a couple of days and to please avoid the area while it is ongoing.

As of 6:13 p.m., the Dearinger Fire was burning in steep terrain northeast of Darrington at a size of about 10 acres, according to DNR.
