Students from various public schools started their Youth Aviation STEM Program this week. Under the guidance of aviator mentors Jemima Bisimwa and Andrew Pierre-Antoine, the students engaged in flight simulator lessons, learned how to taxi and communicate via air traffic control.
The program, held at the Julia T. and Charles W. Cherry Sr. Cultural & Educational Center in Daytona Beach, aims to introduce young individuals to aviation.
It offers hands-on flight simulation and ground instruction, fostering interest in STEM subjects and aviation careers. Danny Fuquay, president of the Robert B. Griffin Chapter of the Black Pilots of America (BPA), leads the eight-week training.
Highlights of the program include:
Flight simulation sessions: Practical experience with flight simulators.
Ground instruction workshops: Lessons on aviation theory.
Guest speaker series: Insights from aviation industry professionals.
STEM activities: Engaging projects like building model airplanes.
Parents interested in enrolling their children can still secure slots in this educational opportunity.
