The Los Alamos County Municipal Airport, in association with the Los Alamos Civil Air Patrol and Experimental Aircraft Association, will be hosting an Open House 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, July 23.
There will be static displays and exhibits by the New Mexico Pilots Association, Classic Air Medical, New Mexico National Guard, New Mexico State Police, Los Alamos Fire and Police Departments, LANL Hazmat and Robotics, and others including food, drinks, and other activities.
During the Open House, Taxiways C and F, the aircraft runup area adjacent Taxiway C, and the North Terminal Apron will be closed. Due to the ramp and taxiway closures please use the South Apron for runups and transient parking.
In other news, pavement preservation work at the airport is scheduled to resume the week of July 25. The airport will be closed beginning at noon Monday, July 25 to accommodate morning flights. The duration of the closure is weather dependent and if conditions are favorable, work is scheduled to be complete by or before the end of the week. Rotary wing aircraft operations will be allowed during the closure.
Airport Manager Geoff Rodgers will be overseeing this pavement preservation project. Rodgers states, “crews suspended work during the latter part of June and early July due to the heavy monsoon rainfall events. With dryer forecasts, this important maintenance operation to preserve the runway, taxiways and tarmac will help keep the airport in good working order.”
Rodgers further adds, “closing the Airport will allow the contractor to work simultaneously on all areas of the project and shorten the time needed for closure … if work proceeds ahead of schedule, the airport will be reopened as soon as it is safe to do so.”
