Augusta Regional Airport landed its first ever “Run The Runway” 5K on Saturday morning. More than 500 participants took off for a chance to go where nobody has gone before without their tray tables in the full and upright position.
As runners lined up at the start line just before 8am, skies were cloudy with temps in the 60s. Runners were treated to a rainbow while on the pounding the pavement. Other than a brief shower toward the end of the race, Mother Nature cooperated.
The fastest runners crossed the finish line in under 20 minutes. Complete race results can be found here.
The event is the first of its kind for Augusta. Proceeds from the event were designated for ForcesUnited, a local non-profit whose mission is to connect service members, veterans and their families, from all eras with services, programs and resources to mitigate crisis, improve their lives and empower them to prosper in the community. Before the event concluded, the Augusta Regional Airport presented a check for $23,500 to ForcesUnited.
WFXG FOX54 was proud to be the media partner for Run The Runway. Running in the event were Morning Co-anchor Vincent Hill, General Manager Denise Vickers and Account Executive Debra McKenzie. Look for coverage and reaction from runners of all ages tonight on FOX54 News Now at 10pm.
