  • EAA Young Eagles Chapter 43 to host free flights for ages 8 to 17 Saturday at Fort Morgan Municipal Airport; pre-registration required

The Young Eagles are coming to Fort Morgan.

On Saturday, June 1, the Experimental Aircraft Association, Inc. Chapter 43, will be holding a Young Eagles Rally at Fort Morgan Municipal Airport.

Young Eagles Coordinator Clifford Hasenbalg said their EAA Chapter is based in Broomfield.

Through these Young Eagles rallies they do at several locations in Colorado, he said they hope to expose youth, specifically 8- to 17-year-olds, to flying.

At the Young Eagles Rally in Fort Morgan, youth will have the chance to go up in a general aviation aircraft, free of charge. Hasenbalg said participants need to register ahead of time, so they know how many aircraft to bring to the event.

A registration form can be found at the EAA Chapter 43 website, under the “Young Eagles” tab, or at: http://eaa43.org/youngeagles.htm. Hasenbalg said they can have up to 35 youth participate in the event and expect it to last about two to three hours total.

He said each child will have the opportunity to sit in the co-pilot seat on their flights.

The EAA is an aviation organization “which embodies the spirit of aviation through the world’s most engaged community of aviation enthusiasts,” according to the EAA Chapter 43 website.

Hasenbalg said they hold monthly Young Eagles Rallies at the Erie Municipal Tri-County Airport on the third Saturday of the month from March to October. He said they wanted to expand the opportunities to more rural-area airports, such as the Fort Morgan Municipal Airport.

He said this is their first Young Eagles Rally for their rural outreach efforts, and he hopes to make this an annual event.
