WOOSTER — The Wayne County Commissioners celebrated General Aviation Appreciation Month on Wednesday, presenting Wayne County Airport Manager Amanda McGee with an official proclamation.
“General aviation and community airports play a critical role in the lives of our citizens as well as the operation of our businesses and farms,” Commissioner Sue Smail read from the proclamation.
The Wayne County Airport services over 35,000 flight operations a year. It also serves as the base for many corporate aircraft and is used by corporations as a means to conduct business. Metro Life Flight also keeps a crew stationed at the airport 24 hours a day, seven days a week.
The Wayne County Airport provides a total economic impact of $21.8 million to the county.
“We are very appreciative of this proclamation being passed because we work hand in hand with the Ohio Aviation Association and they provide us with a great source of networking as well as lobbying to get legislation passed,” McGee said. “This is huge for us. We appreciate all the resources and the support we have out at the airport.”
