TALLAHASSEE, Fla. — Florida Governor Rick Scott declaring April as Aviation Appreciation Month. Aviation airports alone support over $7 billion in economic activity in Florida.
“General aviation and local airports are essential to Florida’s tourism industry, agriculture and manufacturing,” said Timothy Obitts, Executive Vice President and General Counsel of the National Air Transportation Association.
Florida’s commercial airports accommodate nearly 169 million travelers annually, ranking Florida the third in the nation.
“Our network of local airports are critical in connecting communities of all sizes, supporting jobs and driving the economic activity across Florida,” said Selana Shilad, Executive Director of the Alliance for Aviation Across America.
According to Governor Rick Scott, the State of Florida has a significant interest in the expansion of aviation, aircraft and aerospace manufacturing, commercial service, building community airports and aviation education.
