The Warrenton-Fauquier Airport near Midland will receive a $3.76-million federal grant for improvements.
Announced Tuesday, the grant will fund construction of a 20,000-square-yard midfield apron and a 1,600-foot-long access road to the apron.
The improvements represent a key component of a plan for $29 million worth of improvements at the Fauquier airport — most funded with state and federal grants. The plan includes a new, two-story terminal.
Three other Virginia airports also will receive Federal Aviation Administration grants, U.S. Sens. Tim Kaine (D-Va.) and Mark Warner (D-Va.) said in a press release.
Federal grants to the four Virginia airports total $8.45 million.
“Virginia airports face growing demands in ensuring travelers have access to high quality facilities,” the senators said in a press release. “This federal funding will help our local airports improve their conditions and maintain critical infrastructure so travelers can feel confident in the safety of their airports.”
