A United Express jet caught fire Sunday after landing at Denver International Airport, officials said, forcing 63 passengers and crew members to evacuate the aircraft.
SkyWest flight 5869, a CRJ700 regional airliner operating under United Express from Aspen, Colo., to Denver, landed safely Sunday afternoon at the airport, then “experienced engine issues,” according to statements from both SkyWest and United Express.
Denver International Airport spokesman Heath Montgomery said that as the plane was taxiing to the gate, a fire was reported and firefighters were called to the scene. Fifty-nine passengers and four crew members deplaned without any reported injuries and were transported to the terminal, he said.
“It was a very short-lived, very quick incident,” Montgomery said.
Passengers posted photos and videos showing the fire.
“Quick and immediate response. First responders on runway. Huge thanks to pilot and crew for helping to get passengers off safe,” one person wrote with the video post.
Airport officials said the National Transportation Safety Board had been notified about the incident. It was unclear Monday whether NTSB had opened an investigation.
