  • Seven Mayors in South Dakota are joining more than 100 Mayors across the country sending a letter to Congress about concerns over privatizing air traffic control.

Their concern is the impact it will have on rural communities. They say the current proposal would put the system under a private board that would service commercial airlines. This private board would handle taxes, fees and access, according to the organization Alliance For Aviation Across America.

The Senate version of the letter was sent to Sen. John Thune (R-SD) who is the chairman of the Commerce, Science and Transportation committee.

Mayor Mike Huether of Sioux Falls and the mayors of Mitchell, Edgemont, Watertown, Huron, Wall and Strugis all signed the letter.
