Mayor Lydia Mihalik has issued a proclamation declaring the month of December 2016, as General Aviation Appreciation Month in Findlay, Ohio, and invites all citizens to recognize the importance of local community airports
PROCLAMATION

Findlay, Ohio
WHEREAS: General aviation and community airports play a critical role in the lives of our citizens, as well as in the operation of our businesses and farms; and
WHEREAS: The state of Ohio has a significant interest in the continued vitality of General Aviation, Aerospace, aircraft manufacturing, educational institutions and aviation organizations and community airports and airport operators; and
WHEREAS: According to the 2014 Ohio Airports Economic Impact Study, general aviation airports in Ohio support 17,497 jobs and $688 million in annual payroll. According to the same source, fractional aircraft companies, including NetJets, MaxFlight and Flight Options employ more than 1,400 Ohio workers; and
WHEREAS: According to the Ohio Department of Transportation, Office of Aviation, the state has a total of 150 public-use general aviation airports. According to the FAA, these airports serve 15,586 pilots and 6,319 Ohio workers; and
WHEREAS: According to the 2014 Ohio Airports Economic Impact Study, general aviation airports in Ohio contribute more than $1.8 billion to the state’s economy; and
WHEREAS: According to FAA data, Ohio is home to 137 repair stations, 19 FAA-approved pilots schools, 2,856 student pilots and 2,981 flight instructors. In addition, there are 122 fixed-base operators in the state, according to the AC-U-KWIK directory. According to Helicopter Association International, there are 740 heliports in Ohio; and
WHEREAS: Many communities in Ohio depend heavily on General Aviation and Community Airports for the continued flow of commerce, tourists, and visitors to our state.
NOW THEREFORE, I, Lydia L. Mihalik, Mayor of the City of Findlay, Ohio, do hereby proclaim the month of December 2016, as:
GENERAL AVIATION APPRECIATION MONTH
In Findlay, and invite all citizens to recognize the importance of local community airports.
