Gov. Bill Walker has again proclaimed September as Aviation Appreciation Month in Alaska, with a proclamation recognizing the achievements of those who make aviation possible on the last Frontier.
The state plays a major part is aviation in Alaska with operation of 249 airports.
Eighty-two percent of Alaska’s communities are off the road system.
They are reliant on aviation to provide all-season access for commerce, transportation, and emergency medical services.
The Alaska Department of Transportation and Public Facilities joined with the Alaska Air Carrier Association, Alaska Airmen Association, Aircraft Owners and Pilots Association, Federal Aviation Administration, and Alliance for Aviation Across America in thanking Walker for recognizing the significance of aviation in Alaska.
