An airport in Schuylkill County is hoping to increase aircraft traffic.
The Schuylkill County Commission is pitching in by helping with funding. The county is supporting the Schuylkill County Airport Authority with 350-thousand dollars. That money will be used to expand the runway at Joe Zerbey airport, allowing larger planes to land in the county.
“This is one of the most important projects, I feel, that we’ve done in a long time that will help create more jobs in our area,” said George Halcovage, commissioner.
A longer runway will also make the airport safer for planes and passengers. Construction is expected to begin by the end of the year.
