Illinois Congressman Rodney Davis awarded University of Illinois Willard Airport a Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) grant, according to a news release sent out Friday.
Davis, a member of the Senate Commerce Subcommittee on Aviation Operations, Safety and Security, awarded the airport the $2.5 million grant to focus on a redesigning project.
The project is focused on creating a new runway layout and configuration in order to improve the overall levels of safety.
“Our rural airports ensure our small communities remain economically competitive and connected to the rest of the world,” Davis said in the release. “Grants like this one are essential to making necessary upgrades to improve safety and efficiency.”
