  • Los Angeles will return Ontario International Airport to Ontario if the Federal Aviation Administration signs off on the deal. Groups in both cities approved the deal this week.

The OIA Authority, an agency created by Ontario and San Bernardino County to manage the airport, and Los Angeles City Council voted for transfer and now must just sign papers.

The deal comes after contentious negotiations and a lawsuit. Los Angeles is giving up the airport for about $250 million in cash and debt. The airport is a vital economic and employment force in Ontario.

Ontario officials say they are committed to a smooth transition and meeting long-term needs in Southern California.

Ontario let LA operate the airport in 1967 and transferred ownership in 1985 in exchange attracting airlines.
