An expansion project at the White County Airport in Monticello has officially wrapped up.
The project’s newly expanded runway was unveiled Friday afternoon at the airport. The runway has been lengthened from 4,000 feet to 5,000, which allows larger aircraft to land at the airport.
State Sen. Brandt Hershman says Indiana is rapidly becoming an aviation hub, and this upgrade is great for the county’s economy.
“By extending this runway, you’ve laid the groundwork to bring additional suppliers, additional aviation traffic, and additional economic activity into White County and Monticello,” Sen. Hershman said.
The project was financed by a $1.6 million grant from the Federal Aviation Administration and $500,000 from the White County government.
