This weekend should be a stunning spectacle when 25 hot air balloons take to the sky as part of North Texas Medical Center Foundation’s The Sky’s the Limit Balloon Spectacular.
The festival is scheduled for Friday, Oct. 30 through Sunday, Nov 1 at Gainesville Municipal Airport.
The event is now in its fourth year, said NTMC Director of Marketing and Community Outreach & Development Kristy Rigsby.
Gates open at 4 p.m. Friday.
A mass ascension and competition flight are on the Friday evening schedule, Rigsby said.
Balloons will return to the field at 7:30 p.m. for the traditional balloon glow. The glow features balloons tethered on the field with their burners illuminating the envelope.
“It’s a beautiful sight and a photographer’s dream,” Rigsby said in a news release.
Festival events depend on weather conditions.
“If conditions are favorable and officials deem it safe, spectators will be invited to walk among the balloons and view the beautiful creations up close,” Rigsby said. “Not all festivals allow such intimate interaction, so those attending this show are in for a real treat.”
