The Del Norte County Regional Airport is building a new larger terminal that will have more seating for travelers as well as an expanded parking space.
The $20 million project has been divided into two phases. The first phase is set to begin in 2016, engineers from the county will help install sewer and water lines, as well as re-align Dale Rupert Road.
Once phase one is complete, phase two starts with the actual construction of the building. The old terminal will remain, but what the structure will be used for will be decided at a later date.
Airport Director Matthew Leitner said that the new terminal will be something travelers will appreciate.
“It’s going to be a beautiful structure that afford great views and new seating,” Leitner said. “As well as newer bathrooms and things of that nature.”
Construction on the new terminal is planned for 2017.
