Strong winds hampered pilots Saturday at the annual War Bird Fly-in at the Elkhart Municipal Airport, but the weather didn’t stop spectators from enjoying the living history on display.
Training planes and an Avenger were on display, providing a close-up look at what aviation during WWII was like.
In addition to the planes, there was an assortment of Army equipment from the war, including a Sherman Tank, a Jeep and materials a soldier would have carried into combat.
Seasoned military veterans walked around the planes taking photos alongside young children who seemed thrilled when the engines fired up.
