The annual Fly Kansas Air Tour that kicked off Tuesday morning at Wellington Municipal Airport will conclude Saturday at the Experimental Aircraft Association’s 52nd annual Fly-In at Newton City-County Airport.
The air tour includes about two dozen aircraft flying to 12 Kansas towns over five days. At each stop, organizers meet with students and community members to expose them to general aviation.
“The Fly Kansas Air Tour is a unique chance to see the state and learn about general aviation up close,” Tiffany Brown, aviation director of the Kansas Department of Transportation, said in a news release. “We hope to connect with both students and members of the community to demonstrate the important role their airport plays in their community.”
Tuesday’s stops included Pratt, Dodge City and Liberal.
On Wednesday, the tour will make its way to airports in Garden City, Colby and Hays. On Thursday the tour’s itinerary includes Concordia, Junction City and Emporia.
The tour will conclude Saturday at the Air Capital EAA Chapter 88’s Fly-In in Newton.
The fly-in, set for 8 a.m. to 4 p.m., will include a flight competition, a static display of various aircraft including an AT-6 Wolverine and a World War II-era A-26 Invader, as well as aircraft and helicopter rides.
Admission is a $5 per-person donation except for children 17 and under, who are admitted for free.
