New Bedford City Council is scheduled to consider a proposal Thursday night that would allow Claremont Aviation, LLC, based in Bridgewater, to build a 12,000-square-foot hangar at New Bedford Regional Airport to base its corporate jet.
Airport manager Erick D’Leon said it would be the second corporate jet based at the airport, and the largest.
D’Leon said the Challenger jet would have a wingspan of 62 feet. Its presence could be beneficial for the airport, he said, because it could give the airport leverage in pursuit of new infrastructure.
The total lease Claremont is seeking would total 45,000 square feet. D’Leon said the hangar would be in comparable in size to existing fixed-base operators, or FBOs, at the airport.
