Jack Barstow Airport in Midland as a tourist destination? Could be.
A vacant piece of land adjacent to the airport terminal building will soon become a place for people to watch and listen to airport activity. Outside speakers will broadcast pilot communication and weather reports. Picnic tables are planned and so are aviation related play equipment and educational plaques depicting the aerodynamics of flight, parts of the airplane, the history of flight and other aviation information.
Add to all this an open air classroom for programs related to aviation and the use of STEM (science, technology, engineering and mathematics) concepts.
This is exciting news for anyone who is interested in airplanes and flight, and will be a fun place for people of all ages to spend a few hours watching planes and learning something new.
We applaud the members of the Midland Community Aviation Discovery Area Project committee for this new attraction. Ground already has been broken for the project. We are looking forward to its completion.
