OAKLAND (KRON) — A man who went missing with his young children in a rugged area of Northern California says he spent more than two days trying to get the attention of rescuers by putting pink blankets in trees and leaving bottles by a river.
Nicholas Vlahos says that he and his children also had fires going and put yellow straps everywhere before rescuers found them.
The 41-year-old and his 5-year-old son and 3-year-old daughter were airlifted out of the Tahoe National Forest on Thursday night. Authorities say they were not injured and were in good spirits.
The family had been camping when Vlahos and the kids set off on an off-roading trip in his truck. Vlahos told the station that the truck got stuck.
