Business Buzz: Airport Business OK’d for Corporate Jets; Intertape Polymer an Energy Star; Leadership Sarasota; Leadership Manatee

  • AirFlyte, a wholly owned subsidiary of Rectrix Commercial Aviation Services Inc., received the Federal Aviation Administration certification that enables it to do full maintenance of corporate jet aircraft at Sarasota Bradenton International Airport.

    AirFlyte is located at the Rectrix Aerodrome Center Inc. Hangarminium site at 8080 15th St. East in Sarasota. Rectrix bought AirFlyte in January 2013. Airport President and Chief Executive Officer Fredrick “Rick” Piccolo, said that, “Having a fully certified maintenance station on airfield property, offering high-quality amenities, certainly bodes well for SRQ as this type of growth is happening nationally.”

    Intertape Polymer an energy star

    Sarasota-based Intertape Polymer Group Inc. has been named a Energy Star Partner of the Year.

    The manufacturer of tapes, films, woven fabrics and packaging systems for industrial and consumer use developed an energy-management program using tools supplied by the Environmental Protection Agency program.

    The company, which operates 10 production plants and employs 1,800, was recognized for the growth of its energy program and leadership as a medium-sized manufacturer.

    Key 2013 accomplishments included:

    Reducing absolute energy use by nearly 3 percent over 2012, saving the company nearly $2 million on energy costs since launching in 2009.

    Meeting the EPA’s Energy Star Challenge for Industry at eight of its 10 manufacturing plants. Carbon dioxide emissions were cut at its plants by 26,000 metric tons in two years.

    2 Sarasota leadership programs seek participants

    Leadership Sarasota County, a council of The Greater Sarasota Chamber of Commerce, is accepting applications for Leadership Sarasota and Youth Leadership Sarasota.

    Leadership Sarasota is a nine-month program designed to make participants more aware of the community and its needs. The deadline to apply is June 5.

    Youth Leadership Sarasota is a program for high school juniors designed to provide the knowledge, tools and contacts needed to be successful leaders. Those applications are due May 29.

    Manatee chamber seeking leaders

    Applications for the 2015-2016 Leadership Manatee program are now available. Leadership Manatee is a program of the Manatee Chamber Foundation in partnership with the Bradenton Kiwanis Club.
