MT. PILCHUCK STATE PARK, Wash. – An injured hiker was airlifted to safety after falling during a backcountry hike, the Snohomish County Sheriff’s Office Search and Rescue said Saturday.
The man was scrambling between Pinnacle Lake and Mt. Pilchuck when he fell, and sustained minor injuries. Unable to hike out of the backcountry on his own, the injured hiker called 911 for help around noon. A helicopter rescue team was training in the area and located the man shortly after his call.
The hiker was flown to Taylor’s Landing, and treated by medics. Search and Rescue Deputy Glen Bergstrom says the man was fortunate to have been in cell range.
