PHOENIX (AP) – Authorities in Phoenix used a helicopter to pick up an uninjured hiker who got lost while hiking on a mountain peak in the city.
Fire Department spokesman Mark Vanacore says the helicopter was used to perform the rescue Wednesday night because hiker was a very steep and rugged area off the trail on Piestewa Peak.
Vanacore said the location and darkness dictated the decision to not send a ground crew to help the hiker.
