MOBILE, Alabama – In honor of National Aviation Day U.S. Rep. Bradley Byrne, R-Fairhope, will tour both Enterprise State Junior College’s Alabama Aviation Center and the AIDT Alabama Aviation Training Center on Tuesday.
Both facilities are located on the Mobile Aeroplex at Brookley campus and are expected to play vital roles in the hiring and training of some 1,000 employees for the $600 million Airbus A320 final assembly line under construction nearby.
Observance of National Aviation Day was established in 1939 by President Franklin Roosevelt to honor the birthday of Orville Wright, who alongside his brother Wilbur is credited with building the world’s first successful airplane.
Although the 9 a.m. tour will not be open to the public, Byrne has invited local media to attend a brief press conference at 10 a.m. where he, Alabama Aviation Center Director Kyle Cook and AIDT Facility Manager Ashley Phillips are expected to discuss Alabama’s aviation industry in general; aviation efforts being made in Mobile and Baldwin counties specifically; and workforce development needs and training.
