GREENSBORO, N.C. — A lucky rescue dog named Lucy flew back home to the Triad on a first-class private jet after successfully undergoing emergency surgery.
During an annual vet exam, a Triad vet discovered Lucy had a problem with her hip.
Lucy’s family could not afford surgery, so they contacted a dog rescue group who found a pilot who was also a doctor and agreed to do the surgery.
A vet in Asheville volunteered to do the $5,000 surgery and even included transportation.
It was all through an organization called Pilots N Paws.
Dr. David T. Crouch flew the plane and performed the surgery. He said Lucy should make a full recovery.
“It feels wonderful to save a life, or in Lucy’s situation, give her the hip surgery she so desperately needed,” he said.
Lucy begins physical therapy this week. The dog’s family was not charged for the surgery.
