WATERLOO | The Waterloo Regional Airport is receiving a $1 million federal grant from the U.S. Department of Transportation to purchase snow removal equipment, U.S. Sen. Tom Harkin announced today.
“That’s exciting to hear we got that,” said Michelle Weidner, city finance director. It was included in a previous federal Airport Improvement Grant application.
Weidner said that typically such grants require a 10 percent local, match which is typically paid for by airport passenger facility charges on plane fares.
In all, the U.S. DOT awarded a total of $3,241,716 to Iowa airports for various rehabilitation and improvement projects. Harkin is a senior member of the Senate Appropriations Committee and the subcommittee that funds the DOT.
