Sen. Kelly Ayotte (R-N.H.), the ranking Republican on the Senate aviation subcommittee, last week delivered a strong endorsement of FAA’s Contract Tower Program.
Speaking to the AAAE/ACI-NA Washington Legislative Conference, Sen. Ayotte said last year’s sequestration fight certainly “got our attention on Hill” about the importance of the contract tower program to states and smaller communities across the country, as well as the cost-effectiveness of the program to taxpayers and FAA.
She also told the airport attendees that she and other senators soon will be sending a letter to the appropriations committee leaders asking them to provide full and dedicated funding for the program in fiscal 2015 because, “Congress very much appreciates, on a bipartisan basis, not only the cost-effectiveness of contract towers, but also the clear safety benefits this program provides our aviation system.”
