The Washington State Department of Transportation is now accepting applications for the second round of 2013–2015 airport grants, for which WSDOT anticipates awarding $1.9 million in funding for airport projects.
As part of this round of grants, WSDOT will also implement its new Statewide Capital Improvement Program (SCIP). Airports must apply for projects included in the SCIP, and WSDOT will prioritize applications based on their SCIP project scores. Additional guidance is provided in the WSDOT Airport Aid Grant Procedures Manual Addendum – March 2014.
Potential grantees can fill out the online application and Airport Aid Application Checklist. Airport Aid Grant Assurances are now required along with the application package.
Applications are due by 5 p.m. April 30. Qualifying projects should be targeted for completion by June 30, 2015. Eligible projects may include work beginning after June 1, 2014. WSDOT will announce grant-award decisions the week of June 2, 2014.
In addition to Gov. Jay Inslee’s 2013 transportation budget, which provided a one-time, $1.5 million increase to WSDOT’s Airport Aid Grant Program, the recently approved 2014 supplemental transportation budget provides an additional $565,000 for the 2013-2015 biennium. The increase includes existing funds in the state’s aeronautics account, which come from aviation fuel fees and a portion of the state aircraft registration fee/excise taxes.
The next grant cycle will begin in July 2015, with an anticipated $1 million available.
Airport sponsors should review the WSDOT Airport Aid Grant Procedures Manual.
