Abraham Lincoln Capital Airport (Ill.) recently installed four roof-mounted solar thermal collectors to reduce electric utility usage when water is being heated for the main terminal.
The airport said that a $12,800 grant from the Illinois Clean Energy Community Foundation helped to fund the total installation cost of $28,200.
The water heated from the solar thermal collectors will provide the hot water supply for a number of tenants located in the terminal, public restrooms, and various authority operational areas. It is estimated the four thermal collectors, heating approximately 160 gallons a day, will provide a savings of $900 annually in electric charges, according to the airport.
