  • LAS VEGAS (KSNV MyNews3.com) — A local young boy is getting the medical care he needs in Phoenix, thanks to the generosity of a doctor with his own set of wings.

The trip is made possible through Angel Flight, where pilots donate their time and aircraft to transport patients to their doctor’s appointments.

Lisa Moran’s son, Ivan Arteaga, 2, suffers from epidermolysis bullosa, an incredibly rare condition. His tender skin easily peels and blisters. The closest treatment for him is in Phoenix, which could be a five- to six-hour drive.

Dr. Joseph Adashek of Desert Perinatal Associates in Las Vegas was their pilot.

“We do not get paid for this,” he said. “We wouldn’t accept it even if we were offered.

“It’s not all altruistic — I love to fly,” he continued. “It gives me a good reason to go flying rather than just go fly somewhere.”

Adashek flies people out of town every few weeks but wants to do more.
