The city of Austin’s Planning Commission will hold a public hearing April 23 on the rules and recommendations governing helicopter landing sites and traffic.
The hearings are a response to concerns raised by businesses and residents about the helicopter traffic related to the Formula One race at Circuit of The Americas in November 2012. The City Council previously has directed staff to look into changing the portion of city code that regulates helicopter facilites.
Many Austin residents and businesses expressed concern that there were few limits on how many helicopters could land and how close the routes could travel to neighborhoods and businesses.
The Planning Commission subcommittee on codes and ordinances recommended that the full Commission hear the item on April 16.
