The Wichita Aero Club this week announced the creation of the Edward W. Stimpson Scholarship, which will provide $2,000 to a student with an interest in pursuing a degree or professional certification in an aviation-related field.
Stimpson, who died in 2009, was one of the founders of the General Aviation Manufacturers Association and spent 25 years as GAMA’s president. In addition to his many other contributions to aviation, he spent five years as the U.S. ambassador to the International Civil Aviation Organization.
To be eligible for the scholarship in Stimpson’s honor, students must have completed 50 percent of the credits toward their degree.
The club will be accepting applications through March 15, with an initial winner to be named shortly thereafter.
The plan is to increase the amount and/or number of awards the scholarship provides over time.
