(NEW BEDFORD, Mass.) — Public airports across Massachusetts have been found to generate $11.9 billion in economic activity, according to a study done by the state’s Department of Transportation Aeronautics Division.
The findings of the Statewide Airport Economic Impact Study were announced by Governor Deval Patrick on Tuesday during his visit to the Bridgewater State University Aviation Training Facility in New Bedford. The governor said that public airports also support some 124,000 jobs.
A release from the governor’s office went on to state that the economic activity and airport-related jobs include commercial airline service, military aviation, general aviation and emergency law enforcement and medical transport activity.
