With the current FAA extension set to expire at the end of December, the House on Tuesday passed a bill to extend aviation programs and excise taxes through the end of March 2010.
The Senate is expected to approve the measure before the end of this month.
The three-month extension will give lawmakers additional time to work on the long-delayed multi-year FAA reauthorization bill.
The extension will provide a total of $2 billion in AIP contract authority for the first six months of fiscal year 2010. This equals half of the $4 billion in AIP funds that the House and Senate versions of FAA reauthorization legislation provide for next year.
